Where Am I Now?
After completing our first term in OLTD at Vancouver Island University, my cohort and I now have a clear vision of what lies ahead over the next year and a half.
We have been asked to review some of the basic theory behind sound pedagogical practice, as well as looking at more current research on theories of online learning.
We have been introduced to Blackboard Elluminate, a wonderful tool that allows us to participate synchronously with our professor as well as our peers.
We have also been asked to experiment with some interesting software as well as cloud based tools for the presentation of our ideas.
One of our key learnings to date has been to grasp the concept of online learning and then attempt to relate it to our everyday practice. Many of us are in a F2F classroom and it is sometimes challenging to imagine the transition to, or merging of, the two systems.
Another one of the key components thus far has been the creation of an eportfolio as well as a personal webspace. These two creations will help both to guide as well as document our learning journey throughout this course.
For me personally, it has been a great beginning. Originally choosing this course simply due to its particular format, I am now extremely excited about the content and activities that lay ahead. I am confident that the assembled faculty mixed with the proposed technical formats will make this a hugely successful learning experience.
My question going forward is to try to both comprehend, and ultimately re -create the bond that has been formed by my cohort in such a short time over such great distances. I know this sounds corny, but I have been impressed at how successful this format has been to date and look forward to learning more.
