Now that is a pretty “Fat” question, as I would say to my students.
To me, it begs the question, ‘Where do I see myself in five years?”
In the process of deciding whether or not to sign up for a Master’s course, I had to ask myself some serious questions. Why was I doing this? Was I doing it for the money? Was I doing it to go into Admin? Was I really ready to jump back into the hectic life of school on top of school on top of family?
One of the main ideas that surfaced after all of this soul searching was that I was not ready to go into the world of administration any time in the near future. I honestly enjoy what I do too much to give it up. I also feel that after seven years I am just starting to get the hang of things and I want a chance to ‘perfect my craft’ before moving on.
From that statement came the obvious question of, “What do I want to improve?” For me it is not just about getting better at classroom management. It is not just about improving my conflict resolution abilities. It is about working together with my peers to change the system in which we are currently immersed. It is about helping teachers, even those younger than me, that there is more to this job than simply ‘having students do stuff’. Our job is to provide meaningful experiences for students that will help prepare them for the world that lies before them.
My hope is that OLTD will help me fill in some of those pieces that are missing in my practice and that of other teachers around me. I am determined to tear down these walls around us. I just want to make sure that I have a plan for when the rubble is surrounding my feet.
My question here is simple. Will my attempt to fuse F2F with Online Learning be a step in the right direction? Is this the best way to break away from our traditional model of education?
